A calm path for starting Japanese

If you are starting from zero or do not know which tool to use first, follow this short path to understand the basics and practice inside YomuKana.

01

First, understand the map

Kana are the syllabic scripts of Japanese: hiragana and katakana. Kanji are meaning-based characters. Romaji uses Latin letters and can help at the start, but should not become a crutch.

02

Then, follow a simple order

Start with hiragana, move to katakana, practice recognition with Guess Kana, review with flashcards, and advance to kanji/sentences when kana reading feels more comfortable.

03

Finally, keep a rhythm

Short sessions work better than marathons. Use Moji Dojo to build speed, return to the table when symbols blur together, and review the cards that still slip away.
